GirlTip #97: Friends Can’t Be All Things To All People

By Rachel Simmons

  • Relationships

I’ve said before our friends sometimes disappoint us. Part of growing up means realizing no one person can be everything to us. But it’s also true that we may need to be savvy about who we turn to at particular times. Friends can have strengths in certain areas — deep talks, having fun (I want to write going hard but I think I’m too old) — but not be the one we go to when we need a shoulder to cry on. It’s tough to swallow, but I’m pretty sure it’s not worth ending a friendship over. People give what they can give, they are who they are. If we expect too much, that might be on us. What do you think?
