GirlTip #114: Talk to Your Daughter About Body Image on Instagram

New research has found that exposure to peer and celebrity images on Instagram negatively impacts mood and increases body dissatisfaction in girls — just like images of models in magazines do. With summer, and bikini selfies, on the horizon, let’s talk frankly with girls about the potential danger of exposure to these images. That doesn’t mean getting off Instagram, but it does mean looking at those pictures with your eyes wide open, remembering how much is altered, and talking about the tyranny of the thin ideal in this culture.
