Hi Jane, congratulations on all of your incredible accomplishments and transformations! Sounds like you are setting a positive example for your daughter and making the best of your life experiences. Thanks for visiting the site and being part of our community!
Rachel,
You are a godsend for me. I’m 48 and am learning many of these skills for the very first time. I went back to college this fall to get another bachelor’s degree. Everyone thought a Masters would make more sense but I knew that I needed to be with undergraduate students. I also knew that I barely squeaked through in getting my first degree so it would just be the best thing to shore up my teaching skills by becoming a Special Ed teacher. Not only that but the program boasts 100% job placement.
My daughter has fought bulima for over 8 years – too long of a story for here. I was an undiagnosed anorexic in the early 90’s in a religious culture that demanded more and more all of the time. I got down to 117lbs – I’m 5′9′ – barely saw my children but pleased several different significant others in my world back then. I had NO idea that it was okay to feel – always got in trouble and labeled “bad” when I expressed myself. I was told to get in line repeatedly. When I nearly died in 1992 – spent 2 years on disability etc. I awoke from the cult of pleasing others and have been “in trouble” since.
I’m just on the first chapter of your book – it rather lept off the shelf at Borders yesterday. I’m having surgery in a few weeks and finals will be over so…if I can stand to wait, I’ll start in earnest after the 15th.
Thank you for courageously living and making this difference!
